The Myers Park Story

Myers Park Dental was founded in 1955, and was originally a residence and dental practice, giving the space a homey feeling. Since then it's housed a series of excellent practitioners dedicated to serving the people of Myers Park, Eastover, Uptown, and the surrounding areas.‍

‍Dr. Banks and Dr. Crystal Allen have turned Myers Park Dental into their dream practice. They are privileged to fill this space that has been serving generations for over 70 years.

Dr. Banks Allen

FOCUS: Dental Implants, TMJ/TMD, Restorative Function

Background and Education

Dr. Banks Allen grew up just a few miles from Myers Park Dental Partners and was a patient here long before returning as a dentist. After graduating from South Mecklenburg High School, he attended Hampden-Sydney College where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then completed a Master of Science in Biochemistry at the Medical College of Virginia, where his research and thesis centered on oral cancer.

Advanced Training

Dr. Allen has completed advanced clinical training at the prestigious Pankey Institute - one of the nation’s leading centers for comprehensive and relationship-based dentistry. This education emphasizes both technical excellence and a deep understanding of each patient’s goals, comfort, and long-term oral health. He also completed a year-long implant continuum at the Triangle Dental Institute, where he trained extensively in modern implant placement and restoration. In addition, he has pursued advanced coursework in TMJ care and sleep dental appliances.

Dental School

Dr. Allen earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at East Carolina University. As a senior dental student, he spent his final year serving rural communities across North Carolina, providing essential dental care in areas with limited or no access to treatment. After graduation, he returned home to join Myers Park Dental Partners.

Home Life

Outside the office, Dr. Allen enjoys time with his wife, Dr. Crystal, and their two boys. He’s passionate about the outdoors - whether golfing, hiking, camping, or catching a Panthers game - and loves exploring the Carolinas, from the mountains to the coast.

Background and Education

Originally from Virginia, Dr. Crystal Allen discovered her passion for dentistry through her desire to connect with patients and help them achieve smiles they feel proud of. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, then earned a Master of Science in Biochemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Her strong scientific foundation, paired with an artistic eye, guides her approach to creating beautiful, healthy smiles that stand the test of time.

Advanced Training

Dr. Allen has completed advanced education at the prestigious Pankey Institute, renowned for its emphasis on comprehensive, relationship-based dentistry that blends beauty, function, and long-term oral health. As a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and its Esthetic Study Club, she continuously refines her skills in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Her advanced training includes veneers, SureSmile® clear aligners, custom whitening, sleep dentistry, and dental implants - combining precision, balance, and artistry to create natural, confident smiles.

Dental School

Dr. Allen earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the VCU Medical College of Virginia. During dental school, she received the A.D. Williams Student Research Grant for her research on the spread of head and neck cancer. She was also awarded the Robert M. Saunders scholarship, given annually to a dental student with outstanding academic achievement.

Home Life

Dr. Allen loves spending time with her husband and their two boys. Outside the office, she enjoys tennis, staying involved in her kids’ activities, traveling, shopping, and all things beauty - from skincare and nails to anything that feels like self-care. (She proudly embraces being a girlie-girl in a house full of boys!)
